Eminem’s just-released Recovery album is in line to snare the top-selling album honors for 2010 based on first-week sales. Rap music mogul Jay-Z, who made a guest appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman last week, was supposed to give a free concert on the balcony of the Ed Sullivan Theater, as part of his Letterman appearance. The planned concert was nipped in the bud by the City of New York, which refused to issue a permit for the concert, citing crowd control concerns. The mayor’s office says that, while permits are often granted on the condition that the show is not publicized, the permit was denied because word of the concert was leaked.

Some observers think that the real reason the Jay-Z concert permit was axed was the crowd control issues that hamstrung the Drake/Hanson concert at the South Street Seaport earlier in the week. In the end, the Jay-Z concert was moved to the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater and the show went on. Jay-Z was also joined by Eminem, who is promoting his latest album, ‘Recovery.”

Eminem and L’il Wayne will appear in the video for No Love, a new beat making single from Eminem’s upcoming “Recovery” album. The video featuring L’il Wayne was shot before the rapper, whose given name is Dwayne Carter, began serving what could be a one-year sentence in the New York state prison on Riker’s Island. With good behavior, Weezy could be out in eight months.

The two rap music stars will not appear on the video together, however. Rap recording artist Katrina “Trina” Taylor has signed a deal with Heatwave Interactive to “star” in an online version of a hip-hop themed interactive game designed for Facebook. “Platinum Life: Web Edition” will feature an animated likeness of Trina.
