Mixtape Anticipates Album Release
The Cabin Fever mixtape precedes Wiz Khalifa’s latest album, Rolling Papers, which is scheduled to be released on March 29. The mixtape isn’t really a preview of what’s on the album. Instead, it’s meant to generate interest in the artist, ahead of the upcoming release.
Issuing a free mixtape is a good strategy for new artists. Early reviews of the mixtape say that the rap beats on the songs are repetitive, but keep in mind that the music that lands on mixtapes isn’t the same quality that you’ll find on albums. The mixtape selection are the rap beats that are good, but not good enough to get on an album.
Mixtapes do a good job of promoting the artist and getting audiences interested in the music. Often, mixtapes are meant for the club scene, so the beats will be harder than they would on album-oriented songs. The new Wiz Khalifa mixtape has a decent mix of guest artist, but Wiz Khalifa saves the best guests for the album.
Reports say that Rolling Papers will feature tracks by rap artists Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Too $hort and Curren$y. The official track list hasn’t been released yet, but one track from the album, Roll Up, is available now on the official Wiz Khalifa Web site.
